Cardiovascular Biomechanics and Implants
Our group focuses on studying the mechanics and physiology of the cardiovascular system and the mechanisms behind initiation and progression of different cardiovascular diseases. Particular attention is given to evaluating the functionality of medical devices and implants and developing computational and in silico models for clinical diagnosis, decision support, and intervention.
Our work spans a variety of disciplines such as:
- Biomechanical testing and characterization of medical devices and implants;
- Development of animal models that enable the in vivo assessment of implant biocompatibility and allow the investigation of biological markers and mechanisms associated with the progression of cardiovascular diseases;
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD): relationship between hemodynamics and coronary artery disease, aneurysms, stroke and thrombosis.
